Day 1: Arrival in Oviedo
Upon your arrival in Oviedo, if time permits, take the opportunity to explore the enchanting old town. Be sure to visit the stunning Gothic Cathedral, which serves as the starting point for pilgrims journeying to Santiago. Don't miss the vibrant ambiance of this historic city center, featuring numerous cafés, restaurants, and traditional cider houses.

Day 2: Oviedo to Salas
Our journey begins by tracing the Jacobean copper shells through the narrow lanes of Oviedo's city center, eventually leading us into the lush Asturian countryside. We traverse a mix of tarmac lanes, ancient footpaths, and country roads, passing serene villages and rolling hills. Along the way, we encounter Cornellana Monastery, established in 1024, which played a significant religious and political role in the early history of the Christian kingdom in Asturias. After a restful stop, we tackle a series of ascents and descents before reaching Salas. Our accommodation for the night is a charming three-star hotel situated in the historic town center, housed within a former castle next to a museum featuring Pre-Romanesque architecture. Day 3: Salas to Pola de Allande
Begin your journey heading south through the scenic Soto de los Infantes and the picturesque Narcea River Valley, eventually ascending to Tineo, a historically significant town along the Camino. Along the route, you'll encounter the Romanesque church and Monastery of Obona, monuments steeped in cultural and intellectual history, despite their partial ruins. Continuing your journey, you'll pass by a series of charming small churches and chapels that guide you up to Lavadoiro Pass, sitting at an elevation of 812 meters. From here, it’s a descent into Pola de Allande, a delightful town rich in Asturian character. You'll stay in a highly regarded hotel known for its exquisite regional cuisine. Day 4: Pola de Allande to Fonsagrada
Today's journey presents a challenging yet rewarding adventure. You’ll start with a 625-meter climb to reach Puerto del Palo. Standing at an elevation of 1146 meters, this pass marks the transition from the lush, wooded landscapes of Allande to the vast, more barren mountains to the south. Your first reward comes with a thrilling descent covering 35 km to Lake Grandas. From there, it's just 4 km more to Grandas de Salime, a charming hilltop town. Grandas boasts a Romanesque church and a fascinating ethnographic museum that's worth a visit. But the challenges aren’t over yet. You'll face another steep ascent to the Alto del Acebo Pass, which stands at 1030 meters and requires a climb of 475 meters. The effort is worth it, as you’ll then glide down into Fonsagrada, where your next accommodation awaits. Note: If you prefer a shorter route for the day, consider an extra night in Grandas de Salime, which is located 40 km (25 mi) from your starting point.

Day 5: Fonsagrada to Lugo
Cycle into Galicia’s gentle rural landscape, leaving steep ascents behind. Enjoy the charming hamlets and beautiful traditional architecture like 'Pazos' and 'Casas Grandes'. End your day in Lugo, known for its 3rd-century Roman walls and historic old town. Outside the walls, explore Roman baths by the River Miño. You'll stay at a 3-star hotel in Lugo's historical center. Optional Break: To shorten your ride, spend an extra night in O Cádavo (28 km and 1400 m ascent). The next day's route to Lugo is just 30 km, giving you more time to explore. Challenge: MTB: 54 km, 1150 m ascent, Trekking Bike:** 60 km, 650 m ascent

Day 6: Journey from Lugo to Melide
Today, you might have a chance to explore Lugo's significant landmarks and indulge in some shopping before resuming your ride. Beyond Lugo, the Camino Primitivo converges with the more famous French Route between Palas de Rei and Melide. From this point, expect the once quiet lanes to become busier, and you'll experience a heightened "pilgrim atmosphere." Challenge: MTB Route: 46 km / 28.5 mi, 1150 m ascent, Trekking Bike Route: 58 km / 36 mi, 820 m ascent

Day 7: Melide to Santiago de Compostela
On your final day, you'll sense the growing excitement among fellow pilgrims as you near the ultimate destination. You'll share the journey, stunning landscapes, and vibrant atmosphere with other travelers as you approach Monte del Gozo, the hill where pilgrims first glimpse Santiago de Compostela. From there, it's a downhill trek to the grand St. James Cathedral. Enjoy a stay at a charming hotel in the city center. The afternoon is yours to explore Santiago at your leisure.
