Day 1 - 2
Arrival in Carentan
Upon arriving in Carentan, check in to your accommodations and take some time to explore the charming marina and vibrant town center.
Day 2
Cycling Roundtrip via Utah D-Day Beach (Optional)
Embark on a roundtrip journey with a stop to explore the stunning shoreline that served as the backdrop for the American landings on Utah Beach. The route also takes you through the scenic Contenin and Bessin Marshes natural park. Challenge: 39km, flat terrain
Day 2 - 3
Return to Carentan for overnight
Day 3 - 4
Carentan to Saint-Lô
Depart from Carentan, once a bustling trade hub, and traverse the scenic back roads through the Cotentin marshes. Connect to the greenway in Saint-Fromond, and follow it alongside the picturesque Vire River towards Saint-Lô. Along the route, take in the serene river life, complete with locks and dams. Upon reaching Saint-Lô, explore the town's historic remparts, national Stud farm, and various museums. Challenge: 42 km, 147 m ascent, 17 m descent
Day 4 - 5
Saint-Lô to Vire
Start your journey in Saint-Lô and follow the scenic greenway along the Vire River, which runs along an old towpath, until you reach Pont-Farcy. As you ride, take time to appreciate the stunning views of the valley from the Roches de Ham and enjoy the river’s features, including locks and dams. From Pont-Farcy, veer off the towpath and navigate the narrow lanes of the “bocage” landscape, which continues along the Vire River. These winding routes will take you through valleys showcasing diverse landscapes of wooded hills and offer breathtaking views over the Vire River gorges. The path leads you to the impressive Viaduct de la Souleuvre. After admiring the viaduct, continue towards La Graverie, enjoying largely traffic-free sections. Finally, follow the greenway to Vire, a town celebrated for its delicious local charcuterie, especially the renowned Andouille de Vire. - Distance: 66 km, ascent: 446 m, descent: 297 m
Day 5 - 6
Vire to Mortain
Begin your journey a few kilometers west of Vire, following the green way. After an 8 km stretch heading south, you'll find a convenient stopover designed for hikers and cyclists, featuring a refurbished station complete with toilets and picnic facilities. As you traverse the rolling hills toward Sourdeval, you'll discover another rest area equipped with a shelter, picnic tables, and toilets. Continue your ride to Mortain, where you can explore the town's heritage sites, beautiful waterfalls, and scenic countryside. Throughout the trail, you'll find informative displays about local history, traditions, and customs. Challenge: 40 km, with an ascent of 357 meters and a descent of 307 meters.
Day 6 - 7
Mortain to Ducey
Starting in Romagny, follow the scenic greenway through the picturesque Mont-Saint-Michel bay area, tracing the path of the serene Sélune River. This route meanders through the lush, verdant valleys carved by the Sée and Sélune rivers, offering unspoilt landscapes and tranquil views. Cycle through the charming towns of Saint-Hilaire-du-Harcouët and Isigny-le-Buat before arriving at Ducey, known for its traditional architectural charm. Distance: 36 km, elevation gain: 65 m, elevation loss: 167 m
Day 7 - 8
Ducey to Mont-Saint-Michel
Start your journey in Ducey, cycling along the rivers Sée and Sélune until you reach the town of Pontaubault. Here, you’ll leave the greenway and continue on serene country roads, offering unparalleled views of the Bay and the iconic Mont-Saint-Michel, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1979. Traverse diverse landscapes as you move from one realm to another. The majestic Mont-Saint-Michel, a famous rock topped by a magnificent abbey originally built as a church in the 8th century, towers over the surrounding scenery. Don't miss the opportunity to visit the abbey and the museums. Challenge: 32 km, 135 m ascent, 150 m descent
Day 8
Departure from Mont-Saint-Michel
After enjoying breakfast, your trip will come to an end. We highly recommend extending your stay to fully explore and appreciate the stunning region of Mont-Saint-Michel.
