Day 1 - 2
Day 1 - Arrival in Siena
Your adventure begins in Siena, one of the most picturesque towns along the Via Francigena, celebrated for its historic Palio horse race. Spend the day meandering through its charming, cobbled streets, on the lookout for the distinctive coats-of-arms adorning the walls of the various contradas. Don't miss the chance to climb the Torre del Mangia for a breathtaking panoramic view of the town's rooftops. A visit to the stunning Duomo is essential; its striking black-and-white striped columns are sure to leave a lasting impression. If you’re fortunate, your visit may coincide with a festival in one of the contradas, where you can marvel at the artistry of skilled flag-throwers. Conclude your day with a delightful dinner at a café in Piazza del Campo, savoring a plate of pici all’aglione while admiring the beautifully illuminated Palazzo Pubblico.
Day 2 - 3
Day 2 – Journey from Siena to San Quirico d’Orcia
Let’s hope for sunshine on the first day of your adventure, as the Crests of the Val d’Arbia promise breathtaking views. After bidding farewell to Siena, resting gracefully on the distant hills, you will traverse the quintessential dirt roads typical of the Siena region, heading toward the fortified village of Lucignano, home to an exquisite Church. Upon reaching Monteroni d’Arbia, you’ll be able to marvel at the Grancia di Cuna, an impressive fortified farm that once stored wheat reserves for the Republic of Siena. From Lucignano, your journey continues through the Valle dell’Ombrone to Buonconvento. Pass through the gate in the village walls to discover the charming old town center, where you'll quickly understand why its name translates to “happy fortunate place.” Then, hop back on your bicycle to continue towards San Quirico, pedaling along both dirt and some paved roads. Any challenges faced will be rewarded by the stunning vistas of the Val D’Orcia, with its picturesque hills adorned with vineyards and cypress trees. In San Quirico, you'll be captivated by the Collegiata gate, where various architectural styles merge in intricate decorations. Take a moment to unwind among the manicured green hedges of the Horti Leonini, a serene fifteenth-century garden. After soaking in the beauty and history, you can look forward to a restful evening in San Quirico d’Orcia, enjoying the comforts of your bed and breakfast.
Day 3 - 4
Day 3 - Journey from San Quirico d'Orcia to Radicofani
Today's adventure takes you through the mesmerizing landscapes of the Val D'Orcia. Shortly after departing from San Quirico, you'll step into a realm untouched by time, visiting the enchanting Vignoni Alto. Make sure to rejuvenate your spirits with a dip in the therapeutic thermal waters of Bagno Vignoni. This leg of your journey, though short, will be a true test of your strength as you push onward to Radicofani. Hold on, because the view awaiting you from Radicofani Fortress, despite your fatigue, will make every effort worthwhile. Take the opportunity to explore the charming Pieve di San Pietro, a twelfth-century gem, and enjoy an evening stroll through the quaint old town center, where you can marvel at the fortress's magical illumination.
Day 4 - 5
Day 4 - Journey from Radicofani to Bolsena
Begin your day in Radicofani and set out towards one of the most captivating segments of the Via Francigena. Leaving the ancient fortress behind, you'll traverse the historic Via Cassia. This path is encircled by endless rolling hills, with the majestic Monte Amiata standing watch in the distance. Your trek will lead you to the Romanesque crypt beneath the Basilica del Santo Sepolcro. Here, amidst embellished capitals and arches, you can reflect in the serene silence of this sacred space, believed to safeguard stones stained with the blood of Christ. As you progress, the journey becomes more tranquil until the first glimpses of Lake Bolsena appear. You will then descend into an ancient volcanic crater, navigating dirt paths that meander through thick forests and open meadows dotted with olive trees, all the way to Bolsena. For those intrigued by history, the Cappella del Miracolo houses marble slabs believed to be stained by the miraculous blood from a Host in the 13th century. If you're more inclined towards culinary exploration, indulge in local delicacies by the lake, such as Sbroscia, a traditional soup made with lake fish and tomatoes. By the end of this diverse journey, you'll have not only walked through rich landscapes and historical sites but also experienced the local flavors and traditions that make this region unique. Bolsena will greet you with its blend of natural beauty, historical intrigue, and gastronomic delights, offering a memorable end to your day’s adventure.
Day 5 - 6
Day 5 - Journey from Bolsena to Viterbo
Today's adventure takes you through enchanting woods and olive groves, offering constant glimpses of the serene lake. Traveling through an area renowned for its exquisite Extra Virgin Olive Oil, be sure to sample it with a piece of aromatic local bread. Your first major stop is Montefiascone. Here, a climb to the Rocca is a must for panoramic views that will leave you spellbound. Descending from the Rocca, treat yourself to a visit at a local wine bar to savor a glass of Est!Est!!Est!!!, renowned for its unparalleled freshness as it’s sourced directly from the area. If you’re in the mood for more indulgence, consider a relaxing soak at the thermal spas of Bagnaccio—a perfect way to rejuvenate before continuing to Viterbo, your final destination. Upon arrival in Viterbo, be sure to explore the charming pilgrim’s quarter. Don’t miss the impressive Palazzo dei Papi and the tranquil Longobard cloisters of Santa Maria Nuova. To cap off your journey on a sweet note, indulge in the delightful local delicacy, frittellacce.
Day 6 - 7
Day 6 - Journey from Viterbo to Sutri
Your adventure continues from Viterbo as you head toward Vetralla, a charming town nestled in the heart of ancient Etrurian territory. From there, the route winds through the verdant countryside of Lazio, ultimately bringing you to Sutri—a small town brimming with attractions. One highlight you won't want to miss is the Roman amphitheatre, an impressive structure completely carved from tuff stone. You can choose to sit on the terraces or step onto the stage for a unique perspective. Before leaving, make sure to sign the visitors’ register—this is very important for the custodian, who will likely invite you to do so if he is there. Next, visit the church of Santa Maria del Parto, where the tuff walls are adorned with well-preserved frescoes. Among the images, look out for the depiction of pilgrims praying with sticks in their hands.
Day 7 - 8
Day 7 - Ride from Sutri to Formello
Set off from Sutri and journey towards Campagnano and eventually Formello. Along the way, you'll pass by the serene Mount Gelato Waterfalls, perfect for a refreshing dip if you need to recharge. Continue on a scenic road through Veio Nature Park, leading you to the outskirts of Campagnano. Here, you can take a break at Venturi Park, home to a majestic three-hundred-year-old Yew tree, known locally as the “Tree of Death” - though rest assured, it is completely safe to relax under its branches! Your journey continues through the wooded hills of Veio Nature Park, bringing you into the picturesque Valle del Sorbo. On your route, don't miss the opportunity to admire the sanctuary of the Madonna del Sorbo. Finally, you’ll arrive in Formello, characterized by its charming medieval architecture.
Day 8 - 9
Day 8 - Journey from Formello to Rome
Hop back on your bike for the final leg of your adventure, bridging the gap to the majestic Eternal City. As you traverse the picturesque Lazio countryside, it’s easy to forget how close you are to a bustling metropolis. A short stint on busier roads will bring you to the serene cycle path along the River Tevere. This enchanting route will lead you directly to the gates of Vatican City, culminating your journey in the iconic St. Peter's Square. Make sure to capture a triumphant photo in front of the Basilica. Celebrate the culmination of your travels by indulging in some succulent spring lamb, savory pecorino Romano cheese, and perhaps treat yourself to a delectable maritozzo filled with cream. You’ve earned it!

Day 9 – Arrivederci Rome!
The trip ends after breakfast, unless you have booked extra nights or other optional services with us.
